Mindful Eating Course
Event on 2014-03-06 19:30:00

Next Introductory Evening: Thursday, February 27th, 19.30 to 20.45

Course Dates: Thursdays, 19.30 to 21.30 (Mar. 6th; Mar 13th; Mar 20th; Mar 27th)

We seldom take the time to really gauge our hunger, focus on our food or even truly savour a few bites. As a result, we often eat when we’re not really hungry, and eat too fast, too much and too unhealthily. Diets that teach us to restrict our calorie intake or eliminate certain foods have proven to be unsustainable. Around 95% of people who lose weight by dieting will regain it in 1-5 years, and our dieting can cultivate an unhealthy relationship to food.

The Mindfulness Based Eating Awareness Training (MB-EAT) course, which was developed and clinically tested by Dr. Jean Kristeller at Indiana State University, is different in that it deems no foods good or bad and advocates no particular diet. Its primary philosophy is not to change what we eat, but how we eat. A growing evidence base suggests that the MB-EAT programme is highly effective in helping people manage unruly eating habits and lose weight.

About the course:

In the course you will be taught a variety of mindfulness techniques including eating exercises, mindful movement, self kindness, and guided meditation that help get to the heart of physical and emotional eating challenges. You will learn how to use your body’s cues to help guide your decisions to begin and stop eating, and ultimately how to eat the foods you like without guilt and without overeating. By learning how to replace self-criticism with self-nurturing, you’ll gain freedom from worries about food, eating, and weight, and can develop a personal eating plan that works for you.

About the teacher:

This course will be taught by Dr. Cinzia Pezzolesi, a Clinical Psychologist with a first degree in Psychology and a Professional Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Urbino, Italy. She also holds a PhD from the University of Hertfordshire, UK. Cinzia's interest is around mind and body unity and she is specialised in mindfulness-based stress reduction and mindful eating.
